It was greatly appreciated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It wasn\u2019t my intention to vent my spleen but things \u201cgot abit much!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normal service is now resumed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/media.beehiiv.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80\/uploads\/asset\/file\/431bb9d9-bb02-401d-b9d9-18884dddaf2e\/groundhog.jpg?t=1707127829\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><small>Punxsutawney Phil<\/small><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last Friday was Groundhog Day. The day when Punxsutawney Phil announces whether there will be an early Spring or 6 more weeks of Winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat did he predict?\u201d , I don\u2019t hear you ask &#8211; well , it\u2019s going to be an Early Spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And you know what, I think he\u2019s right &#8211; for out of the gloom of the Recruitment Winter there are now the early signs of a Recruitment thaw!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The phone is ringing and emails are arriving which heralds the news of businesses looking for candidates just like you\u2026 well not you, Ben &#8211; but everyone else reading this!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those of you looking for a change this is great news. So , fire up the laptop, update your CV and start thinking about what you really want from your next job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More holiday perhaps?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/media.beehiiv.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80\/uploads\/asset\/file\/74118e5e-7743-48a6-b2bb-c90836ad70d3\/hols.jpg?t=1707174642\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><small>It\u2019s true \u2026 you do have less holidays than a Medieval peasant. You are welcome.<\/small><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, everyone wants more money &#8211; it\u2019s the number 1 reason that most people start looking in the first place but if that\u2019s your main concern , then start an OnlyFans page!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would but the internet is already saturated with bald , 40 something men with middle age spread doing stuff that no one should ever see!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To start with, you need to think about where you are in your career &#8211; have you hit a ceiling with the firm you are part of? If so, have you approached the powers that be about it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u275d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If opportunity doesn\u2019t knock, build a door<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><small>Milton Berle<\/small><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The percentage of candidates who contact me saying that they need to move without having had this conversation with their current employer is around 80%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Either through embarrassment &#8211; no one likes having to \u201cask for a promotion\u201d or through fear &#8211; they can\u2019t approach their line manager because they\u2019ll be told to fornicate off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s perceived to be easier to just leave\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It really isn\u2019t. Have the conversation, no matter how awkward it is, then you know you have given them the opportunity to show they want you to stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They might surprise you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or you might well be right!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Either way &#8211; you will know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which then leads to the next stage. Applying to jobs, interviews and eventually handing in your notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, you know that I can help with all of the above and I do in any role I work on. However, with the latter, some people harbour a desire to leave a place and \u201cburn all their bridges\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should always seek to avoid doing this when you\u2019re handing in your resignation. You never know who you truly piss off when you burn a bridge, and that may come to haunt you down the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.beehiiv.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80\/uploads\/asset\/file\/d5bcb17e-d2f5-4abf-8e9e-7f83020ad0d6\/425631701_774790588008862_7873358312616373915_n.jpg?t=1707175333\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why it matters:<\/strong>&nbsp;It takes years to build up a reputation, but only seconds to lose it. On top of that, you may intend to get back at just a manager, but you never know who\u2019s watching and who you effect indirectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless of how disgruntled you are, you should try to leave on good terms. There is literally no upside. The only thing it\u2019s good for is 5 minutes of a dopamine hit, a couple texts in your group chat with your friends, and then you\u2019re done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It might take a few years, but don\u2019t be surprised if burning a bridge comes back to haunt you down the road. Especially in a sector as small as this one, we need all the help we can get and it does nothing but shoot yourself in the foot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here Endeth the Lesson!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the above has made me think. And I would be very grateful for any feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you think that there is a need or want for someone to offer a CV \/ LinkedIn review service?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea would be to go through a client\u2019s CV and LinkedIn profile and other Social Media accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019d have a phone call where everything would be reviewed together and I would critique or validate it where applicable&nbsp;and then follow up with the changes to be made. Going over everything until it all looks great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve other ideas for coaching people along too &#8211; Job search strategies. Job offers. Networking. Going on the search and being proactive. Working on your CV, LinkedIn, X handle, as well as a brief of what you want to discuss over a 60 minute call.
